There seems to be a new epidemic of the NAVIDAD virus. It often appears as a message with the subject Re: Sometimes there is no message but there is always an attachment. The name of the attachment file varies. STEP 1 - always just delete the message. If you did NOT delete the message - read on. W32.Navidad is a mass-mailing worm program. Using MAPI, the worm replies to all inbox messages that contain a single attachment. This worm is able to distribute itself through any MAPI-compliant email client, including Microsoft Outlook. However, email messages that are infected with this worm can be received by any email client. The worm utilizes the existing email subject line and body and attaches itself as Navidad.exe. Due to the bugs in the code, when the worm is executed, it causes your system to be unusable. REMOVAL This tool repairs damage done by the W32.Navidad worm and the W32.Navidad.16896 worm variant. To use the tool To obtain and use this tool, follow these steps: 1. Start Internet Explorer. (You must use Microsoft Internet Explorer to download this file.) 2. Click here to download the Fixnavid.com file. 3. When prompted, save the file to the Windows desktop. NOTE: This file has a .com extension and not an .exe extension. It is important that you preserve this extension. 4. After the file finishes downloading, double-click the Fixnavid icon that appears on the desktop. If your computer is NOT infected, this tool will advise you. |
